1. Purpose

With text-based learning that uses cooperative learning models, students are able to differentiate, get the meaning and arrange contextually related social functions, text structure, and linguistic elements of several oral and written announcement texts by giving and asking for information regarding school activities according to the context of their use.

2.1. Announcement Text:


2.1.1 Definition of Announcement Text
There are some definitions of announcement text. They are:
  1. A written/spoken statement or formal words that tells people about something.
  2. Announcement text is a brief statement both oral and written that aims to announce an important matter.
  3. The definition of Announcement relating to learning English functional text is an official notification about something. So, publicly people know what, when, and where is it about.
According to the sources, it can be concluded that announcement text is a functual text which is used to give important information to the others.

2.1.2 Function of Announcement Text
The function of this text is to convey certain information to the others.

2.1.3 Linguistic Elements
Generally, announcement text uses Present Simple and Future Simple Tense. Pay close attention to the examples below:
1. Due to some technical problems, the show will... 
2. We apologize for the inconvenience. 
3. Hi, Guys! Our neighborhood will hold a fund Raising Activity next month. 

2.1 4 Types of Announcement Text
There are two types of announcement text, they are:
1. Spoken Announcement
In the spoken announcement at least contains: 
a. to whom the announcement is addressed.
b. the contents or referred to and the announcement.
c. closing that contains a thank you.
This is an example of spoken announcement.

    2.2. Generic Structure:

    Generally there are some generic structure of announcement text, they are:
    1. The title or type of event 
    2. Date or time, place 
    3. Contact person 

    In some sources it is also said about generic structure of announcement, they are; 
    1. Stating Purpose : The text that contains what event will be held 
    2. Stating Day and Date and time : Day and Date realization. The text that contains 
            when the event will be held 
    3. Stating Place : The text that contains where the event will be held 
    4. Informing Sender : The text that contains name of the person who will be contacted

    Announcement is a statement that contains information about an event. Announcement consists of two types, spoken announcements and written Announcement. Both oral and written which is intended to provide certain information to many people. Generally, the generic structure are: the title or type of event; date or time, place; contact person. Spoken announcement is one of an example of school activities.
